ROOTED IN JORDAN, INSPIRED BY HOME

My name is Aya, and Aya’s Blend began with something I never expected to miss so much: something that had always been there.

Growing up in Jordan, za’atar was never something I thought twice about. It wasn’t a special ingredient or something I considered a part of my identity. It was simply part of everyday life.

It was on the breakfast table. It was mixed with olive oil and eaten with warm bread. It was something my family shared, something I grew up eating, and a flavour that was simply familiar.

It wasn’t until I moved to Canada that I realized how much za’atar was woven into my memories of home.

Being away from Jordan made me look at the little things differently. I started to realize that za’atar wasn’t just a blend of herbs and spices. It was a taste of my childhood, my family, my culture, and the everyday moments I had taken for granted.

And I realized that I wanted to share that experience with others.

I wanted to create a za’atar that reflected the flavour I knew from home while introducing Canadians to something that had always been such an important part of Jordanian life.

That is where Aya’s Blend began.

I started creating a blend inspired by the za’atar I grew up with, carefully bringing together the flavours and traditions that reminded me of Jordan. What started as a personal connection to home became a way to share that connection with others.

Aya’s Blend is my way of bringing a little piece of Jordan to Canadian tables.

Because sometimes, you don’t realize how special something is until you’re far away from it.

For me, that something was za’atar.
